Yes, it's part of the web. She ate that fly the next day. Today she had another one wrapped up in about the same place. Here's some information I found about them:
"Argiope aurantia is commonly known as the Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Writing Spider, Banana Spider or Corn Spider."
Now that is one gorgeous looking spider!! is that part of his web where it looks like a zig zag?
